Premier Of Sarawak Attends 80th Commemoration Of Operation Semut 1945


KUCHING, 27 March  – The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, attended the 80th Commemoration of Operation Semut Parachute Landing 1945 today at Padang Merdeka, Kuching.

One of the highlights of the event was a reenactment of the Operation Semut Insertion 1945, offering attendees a glimpse into the bravery of the special forces involved in the operation. The event also featured a flag handover ceremony to the Premier of Sarawak, symbolizing the remembrance of past struggles.

The commemoration concluded with an appreciation speech by The Honourable Datuk Gerawat Gala, who serves as the Organizing Committee Advisor for the 80th Commemoration of Z Semut Parachute Landing in Bario 2025 and Advisor to Rurum Kelabit (Society of Kelabits Sarawak).

This event serves as a tribute to the heroes of the past while reinforcing patriotism among the people, especially the younger generation.

Also present were the Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian; the Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development of Sarawak, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Sarawak State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; the Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar; Defence Advisor of the New Zealand High Commission, Colonel Dale Parker, and the Deputy Head of Mission of the Australian High Commission, Simon Fellows.
